Bike on Rent in Leh – Your Questions Answered

When you think about hiring a bike on rent in Leh, you will have a lot of questions in mind. Let us find the answers here.

It is the dream of many Indian youngsters to ride to Leh by bike. But, most of them think about riding their own bike. They do not know that they can find a shop that offers bike on rent in Leh. Are you hearing about this type of service for the first time? If so, you should find answers to the common questions people get when they plan to rent a bike:

Is it really possible to rent a bike in Leh?

Yes, you can find shops that provide bike rental Leh. Particularly, you can find many such services in Fort Road in Leh. Based on the number of tourists demanding bikes, make, model and condition of the bike, you can rent bikes somewhere between 800 and 1600 INR. Many bikers think about booking a bike over the phone. But, I would recommend visiting four or five shops in person. Apart from experiencing the condition of the vehicle, you can also get a good deal when you do window shopping.

Can I Take My Own Bike To Leh?

Rather than looking for a Leh bike rental service, some people feel comfortable when they ride their own bikes. If you are one such person, you might get this question. Yes, there is no restriction for private bikes to travel to Leh. But, remember that the vehicle should be either in your name or your father’s name. If you plan to take your friend’s bike, you should get a valid NOC from your friend.

Can I Ride a Bike Hired from Outside of Leh?

From 2014, the Bike Union of Leh-Ladakh decided that bikes that are rented out of Leh will not be permitted for sightseeing inside Ladakh. But, bikes hired from Tso Kar and Tso Moriri are permitted. If you plan to travel to Nubra Valley and Pangong Tso by bike from Leh, you should take a bike on rent in Leh only. You can reach Leh by bike hired outside Leh. But, from there, you will have to again hire a different bike.

If not Leh, Can I Hire a Bike from Manali and Travel to Ladakh?

Even if you hire a bike from Manali, you can travel only until Leh. From Leh, you will have to hire another bike for local sightseeing. But, Manali bike rental services claim that for the days you park the bike in Leh, they will charge only 50% of the rental value. However, to avail of this discount, you should get a valid receipt from the Leh bike rental service from whom you hire a bike for local sightseeing. However, it is better not to assume it yourself. When you rent a bike from Manali, do not forget to enquire whether you can get any discount if you do not operate the bike you hire from them in Leh.

Conclusion:

Leh bike rental is an excellent idea. Some of these shops offer well-maintained bikes for hire. So, you can visit in person and can do comparative window shopping to evaluate the condition of the bike before hiring.
