Bangalore to Gandikota – A Travel Guide

Are you planning a trip from Bangalore to Gandikota? Here is a travel guide that will help you plan. This is what I did during my trip.

I should start by saying that a visit to Gandikota was long on my bucket list. I started exploring how to travel from Bangalore to Gandikota when this interest started in me. But, my plan was never executed for long. But, one weekend it all happened. I started early in the morning with my family. We started with a plan to visit Belum Caves as well during our Gandikota trip from Bangalore. As we started early in around 4 am, we were able to see the sunrise way past the Nandi Hills. It was a wonderful early morning drive though!

Bangalore to Gandikota Route:

Yes, you have guessed it right! We took the same NH44 route that most travelling from Bangalore to Gandikota choose. It was undoubtedly a breezy drive. If you have travelled in the past in this route, now, you might have noticed that a lot of hotels have sprung up. Nevertheless, at 6 am, it is too early to have breakfast we thought. So, we continued our drive past Karnataka. We reached Andhra Pradesh Border. We could hardly find any good restaurants there. However, this is not an issue for us. The reason is that we have packed our food for breakfast and lunch from home.

Gandikota Reach:

Thanks for our car! We have reached Gandikota at around 9.30 am. First, we went straight to the Gandikota Fort and parked our vehicle in the parking space. Thanks to the un-crowded fort! There were only two more cars other than our car. In the fort, we found a few shops selling snacks and cool drinks.

Right at the entrance of the fort, we found a watchtower. Also, we came across the jail and the Madhavaraya Swamy temple. Even, there is a huge mask there named Jamia Masjid. You can also find the Ranganatha Swamy Temple and a huge granary that is not maintained well. Never forget to visit the Gandikota Canyon when you visit.

Our Trip To Belum Caves:

From the fort, we started to Belum Caves. We drove on a road full of sunflower plantations on both sides of the road.

What is the Best Time to Visit Gandikota from Bangalore?

The best time to visit Gandikota from Bangalore is between the months of June and January. The reason is that during the summer months from February to April, it will be tough to handle the high temperature. You can feel exhausted quickly. Also, when you visit during the summer, it will be less appealing to watch Gandikota Canyon as the water level will be less.

Route to Take from Bangalore:

When you start from Bangalore, take the NH44 route. On this route, look out for the Kodur Junction. This junction comes after Bagepalli. At this junction, you will have to take the right to reach Gorantla. Thereafter, you will come across places like Kadiri and Jammalamadugu. Then you can reach Gandikota. Remember that there are not many accommodation options in Gandikota except the Haritha Hotel that belongs to APTDC. So, plan your bookings in advance.
